French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker Review

French-door fridges combine design and function. They feature elegant double doors that open to reveal the large fridge on top and a freezer drawer beneath. Special features like through-the-door dispensers, higher-end ice machines and flex drawers that can be customized make them stand out from the crowd.

We asked Ladina Schopf - interior designer, architect, and the founder of LS Projects - for her suggestions on how to pick the right one. They looked at storage capacity, layout and energy efficiency among other aspects.

As the name suggests, GE's Profile series targets those who want to incorporate cutting-edge features into their kitchen. This fridge has them all from a Keurig K cup coffee maker on the door to a smart dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. Since this refrigerator is an extra amount, I'd like to see higher quality.

This refrigerator is a good choice, despite the blip. It features a large freezer compartment, which is unusual for counter-depth French-door refrigerators. It also holds a lot of frozen food items compared to other models.

Inside the fridge, you'll find 17 shelves and compartments. The refrigerator compartment has 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is roughly on par for the size of a French door fridge that costs this much. It has a decent-sized freezer in the left side. But it's not the most spacious one I've seen.

The drawers are equipped with temperature controls so that you can set them to Beverage, Meat or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, although I found their textured plastic coatings to be a little hard on the fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator includes all the features you'd expect from a refrigerator within this price range. This includes Wi-Fi as well as app support and GE's SmartHQ Software. The app is available on iOS and Android devices and allows you to control your refrigerator from any place around the world. It also comes with a lot of customization options. It will also send you notifications when the door is unlocked as well as when the fridge or freezer needs to be defrosted, and when the filter needs to be changed.

It would be great to have GE PYE22PYNFS had Precise Fill, an option available in a handful of GE refrigerators that allows users to select how many cups they want to disperse. This fridge was the top-rated refrigerator in our Refrigerators Test for several reasons. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The fridge is built with a standard french door fridge only door design, and two rows of spill-capture shelving and a set crisper drawers. The upper right shelf can be folded down to give tall items more space. There's also a full-width storage drawer for food items and an internal water dispenser.

This refrigerator has a freezer with an ice maker making it simple to transfer frozen ice as needed. The freezer also comes with innovative design features like sliding drawers that can help you sort your things. It also comes with a large bin that holds plenty of frozen food and an container for storing ice.

Smart InstaView panel is a cool feature of the refrigerator. It allows you to control the temperature of your fridge and lighting from your smartphone. It's a nice way to control and monitor your refrigerator, especially if you're away from home.

However, while the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it doesn't necessarily add to the overall performance of the refrigerator. In fact, it took longer to defrost and chill foods in this fridge than other refrigerators we tested. This is likely due to the greater capacity.

The other issue we have with this refrigerator is its doors. The handles that are sunken let shorter people open them from the bottom. However taller people will have a difficult time closing them without slamming. It would have been much better if they had front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX is a ideal option for those looking to combine the benefits of a French-door refrigerator's aesthetics with a more efficient layout. Its capacity is higher than average for counter-depth models, and it cools evenly. It's also a bit cheaper than the top counter depth refrigerators that have an ice maker, which makes it a great option.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

If you're looking for a French door fridge that doesn't break the bank this Frigidaire is a great choice. It's a basic design that isn't as visually striking like some of the competitors however it comes with enough features to make it a good option. Its main feature is the adjustable temperature drawer that helps keep food items like meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also has a large water and ice maker dispenser.

Another nice feature is the "Chill Drawer" that sits over the two crisper bins. The drawer lets you redirect the majority of your fridge's cooling power into this area so that you can store foods which need extra attention. This feature is adjustable using a slider on the outside of the drawer. You can also use this to adjust the general cooling settings for the entire fridge, though I've found that adjusting the general settings tends produce better results than specific ones.

In my tests, the refrigerator's temperatures stayed fairly consistent across different areas of the fridge. The temperatures in the top and bottom of the fridge did not vary very far from 38 degrees, and the middle of the fridge was within one degree of 36. This is a great performance, but it doesn't quite rank among the best in our rankings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also connect this fridge to an intelligent thermometer to get more precise readings of the internal temperature of your fridge.

The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's exterior is constructed of stainless steel with a grey body with a "smudge-proof" finish. It does a great job of repelling fingerprints and streaks even when compared to the glossy stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tested.
