Upgrades will give you a boost in specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by +3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as important for the latter due to the need to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item upgrades will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot of the item and the current level of the item. For example, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. It's also essential to use crests wisely, as they have only one purpose. For instance, it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the top equipment you have and keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly applicable to items like trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The discount for the entire account is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
