WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you boost in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by +3. A random additional substat is also added to every upgrade.

The upgraded gear typically has a more value in trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variation (like Eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of weapon or armor. However, the Item Level Upgrade that is used for the upgrade items will remain in use for a long time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every several weeks.

The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current level of the gear being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear from other sources. For example upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase tools, armor, weapon, and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any weapon, tool or armor. The button will show the item's next upgrade level, if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the item slot and current item upgrader mod level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

Many locations offer item upgraders in addition to the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and the chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items in the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are available only via a variety of ways. This is both a benefit as well as an issue.

In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade system. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a specific level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will be less expensive, even when they belong to another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required to upgrade is reduced and the discount is available across all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain achievement milestones.

Crests

Players have a variety of choices when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specific and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only available for equipment of a certain rank. Each rank has a different upgrade items path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, contingent on the kind of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level, item level upgrade which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons to obtain endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

The use of these currencies isn't too difficult, but the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, when a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to get their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests in a wise manner, as they only have one use. For instance, item Level upgrade it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the best equipment available and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning on making. This is particularly applicable to trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all slots are full of high-quality equipment.
