I've noticed that the front arm sticks out a bit more than other robots. This is useful when you're trying to get into difficult corners or on baseboards. The same front arms can also be used to scoop up larger debris like broken toys and books.

The X1 Omni robot vacuum is the most expensive item in our review. It does however, have distinct features that are worth a look. The X1 Omni's biggest draw is its massive dock which doubles as a charging base and the housing for two water tanks, a cleaning sink as well as an best automatic vacuum and mop 2.5-liter dust bin that automatically empties.

The base also has a number of buttons to control the system. These allow you to start a cleaning job or recall the robot or run the dock's auto-emptying process. Press two of the buttons to turn off a child lock, which is a nice option for parents concerned about kids tinkering with the vacuum.

The Omni Omni like other robotic hoovers vacuums uses its camera to spot furniture and obstacles in its path. It will steer clear of them. Unfortunately, this means that the X1 Omni can occasionally become so entangled with obstacles, like a power cord draped across a rug that it becomes stuck and ceases to function until you manually free it. This was a rare occurrence, but frustrating nonetheless, because the X1 doesn't have a "stuck status" alert in its app.

Another possible issue is one of the biggest drawbacks is X1 Omni's inability to automatically switch between vacuuming and mopping modes during cleaning. You'll need to manually switch between the two, which isn't an issue except for the fact that mopping pads haven't been cleaned and dried between uses and can cause mildew or mold.

On the bright side it's worth noting that the X1 Omni is a beautiful-looking robot, thanks to the design team at Jacob Jensen (of Bang & Olufsen fame) who dreamed up its modern, sleek base and mopping pad. It's a big departure from the utilitarian all-black bases of rivals like Roborock or iRobot. It's also an excellent choice for the market that is dominated by boxes.
