It features advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only Best robot vacuum cleaner UK we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an easy mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work or at night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also comes with an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home based on how dirty those areas are.

If you have a bigger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your house needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice command. If you have furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.
