Top Robot Vacuums and Mop Combos

Robots aren't so good at picking up debris like metal screws or pasta pieces. They are however excellent at sweeping dust, pet hair and crumbs. The most effective models come with intelligent navigation systems, which can help them avoid cords, toys and other household obstacles.

1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO is an excellent robot vacuum that has a variety of clever features that make it easier to maintain than other models. The i3+ EVO's built-in dust bin can hold 2.4L of debris and is enough to get it through four or five cleaning sessions before needing to replace it.

The i3+ EVO, just like the i7, uses cutting-edge floor-tracking sensors to create maps. It also lets you navigate through neat rows. However, the i3+ EVO only stores one map, while the i7 has the capacity to store multiple maps. The map of the i7 can be used to create virtual barriers and no-go zones, however, not the i3+ EVO.

While the i3+ EVO is superior at picking up surface debris than some of the other robovacs we reviewed, it's not the best self cleaning vacuum for cleaning corners and edges. It's also a bit less gentle on furniture, despite being fairly quiet. It pulled chairs away from walls and caused some collisions with the sides of our bed, and was stuck to cords and toys during our testing.

2. Black & Decker Pro Q5

The app is simple to use, but it isn't compatible with Apple HomeKit and that feature is expected to be available in 2025. As of November 1, Apple has updated a footnote on its website to note that the feature will be delayed until 2025. The iMop excelled in our analysis of coverage and navigation efficiency and was good at avoiding obstacles, including furniture. It also has the ability to return to the base station which is a nice feature in the event it runs out of battery during a cleaning session.

It also comes with a spot cleaning mode that allows you to clean or mop the specific area of your floor. And it can be manually programmed to follow a specific path, which is useful in narrow staircases or hallways. In our carpet cleaning test, it did a good job cleaning carpets. However, it had a difficult time to clean carpets and rugs with thick piles. It can also be set to automatically raise the mop pad once it comes in contact with carpet.
