bagless wifi-connected robot (his response) Vacuum

This bagless wifi-connected robot has a minimalist, black design. Its cost is comparable to premium smart robotic vacuums.

You can control the device with the physical Clean & Dock buttons on top and the SharkClean App or voice commands using Alexa or Google Assistant. It is equipped with a variety of smart features including home mapping and virtual "no-go zones".

Matrix Clean

SharkClean is an app that you can download to your smartphone to map out your rooms. After mapping, the app lets you make a schedule for your robot vacuum with bagless self empty to keep your home clean or select rooms to have the Matrix begin a cleaning session. You can also create 'no go' zones like closets or beds that you don't want Matrix to get into.

The app also allows you to utilize the "spot" cleaning on demand function where you can choose a spot that is dirty on your floor map, and the robot will automatically traverse the area by repeatedly swiping its cleaning pad. It can clean everything, from dog hair tumbleweeds and tiny pieces of paper that were left from an upcoming craft project.

When the Matrix finishes it's cleaning job it will return to its dock and empty itself into the included bin. This is a neat feature because it reduces your requirement to do maintenance.

One thing to be aware of about this particular model is that the LIDAR mapping sensor is located directly on top and could hinder it from getting under some low-to-the-ground furniture such as tables and sofas. If you're not worried about being a little taller than some other robots it's still an excellent option. Also, keep in mind that this model isn't equipped with an HEPA filter like the other models on this list.

Precision Home Mapping

Shark's Matrix Clean Navigation is a precise grid that makes sure that no spot is missed. Amazing suction draws dirt, dust and debris to a bagless base that has 60 days of capacity. Precision home mapping combines 360deg LiDAR with an accurate home map within the SharkClean app to enable completely autonomous movement and intelligent object avoidance. It creates a precise map of your space, day or night, allowing full movement without bumping furniture and other obstructions. You can leave your robot to clean your home according to a schedule or make use of the Matrix Clean on Demand app to set specific targets for each room.

Powerful Suction

The RV2502AE is an excellent mid-range robot cleaner that ticks all the boxes. It is easy to use, generates precise home maps, and has a self-emptying bagless base. It's also less expensive to run than other robot vacuums.

It also has plenty of power, picking up debris through its suction opening, and relying on its side brushes to push hair and carpet threads into the brushroll. This prevents the accumulation and blockage of the brushroll as seen on other robotic vacuums, and makes this one more effective at picking up pet hair.

In addition to its high suction and self-emptying base, this robot features Matrix Clean Navigation for a thorough cleaning process, Precision Home Mapping for object avoidance, a high-efficiency HEPA filter that can snare 99 percent of odors dust mites, and allergens and two power modes for different flooring types, and the remote control that gives you full access to all of its functions. It's also compatible with voice assistants such as Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant to allow you to start a cleaning job without having to touch the robot.

It's a great choice for homes with a lot of space, but its navigation abilities may be problematic for some. Contrary to other bump robots that are able to avoid stairs however, this one had trouble with stairs. It relied on LiDAR and infrared sensors to map the home however it was constantly mistakenly assuming my cat's house for stairs and demanded that I move it away from the way. It also had 180 minutes of runtime before running out of power, which was much less than advertised.

Self-Empty Base

Some robots - like this one - come with self-emptying bases that can vacuum or dump the debris from the dust bin on board into an external dirt container to make maintenance easier. These are called the Clean Base Dirt Disposal by iRobot, Auto Empty Station by Ecovacs or Bagless Self Emptying Base by Shark. They're a nice convenience but they can be a bit noisy and messy, also they typically require the use of specific disposal bags.

This Shark model is bundled with a HEPA-filtered bagless robot vacuum cleaner base and boasts a huge capacity. It can hold debris for up to 60 days, and does not require daily emptying as other models. Shark's suction is powerful enough to handle even the most difficult mess. The only issue is that the docking station's vacuum system that is used to empty the onboard dust bin is surprisingly loud.

When the robot is connected to an outlet in the wall and is charging the battery, a beep is heard and the green light will flash across its top to show it's ready to start cleaning. If the battery of the robot is low it will be able to dock itself to its base and stop working until it's recharged. It is important that the dock, or Self-Empty Base is set up so that it doesn't get hindered by furniture or other objects and is free of any obstructions.

While it's somewhat more expensive than the other mid-range robotic mops that we've examined, it is solid and performs better on plain floors and has a longer battery life, less maintenance requirements, and a greater variety of automation features such as virtual boundary markers. The iRobot Roomba i7 is still our top pick, though it's more refined and durable and charges more quickly, and gets caught on rug tassels less often. It also has a greater capacity for its battery.

Easy Setup

The Shark AI Ultra comes with a simple-to-use Schedule that takes just a few inputs. You can choose the date and time of sunrise and sunset and the duration of ramp times (increasing or decreasing the brightness), and whether you would like to switch on the lights at nighttime.

It does not have voice control or smart mapping like Alexa and Google Assistant but it has an extremely useful, free programming suite. This suite includes a number of Windows-based tools that allow setting operating parameters and communication, dmXLAN switch and node configuration, as well as live testing and fast replication to multiple installations.

The interface is easy to figure out for even the most novice user. The top tabs correspond with the screens that will be displayed by the installer. There are also tabs for playing around with different colors and messages. It is a powerful tool that lets you quickly create an installation of your program. The application is a lightweight 1.3MB and works with anything from Windows 7 down to Windows 95.
