UPVC Replacement Door Handles

The handles on your doors get worn out over time and need to be replaced. It is crucial to match the dimensions of the handles that were previously used when replacing window handles them.

The three measurements to be inspected are the top screw's position, lever and key hole dimensions. Use the size guide to assistance with this.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever handle is a modern door handle that is designed to fit new or replacement doors. This kind of door handle is available in a wide range of styles & finishes. A number of manufacturers make this handle, including Avocet ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila Door Handles, Millenco & Yale.

The door handles of uPVC/Composite are made of sturdy materials and are suitable for multi point lock doors that require a heavy duty design. The handles are inline and work from the same spindle and screw fixings. They can be easily incorporated into new or existing uPVC/Composite doors.

The spring lever design allows the handle to be set and angled to provide a comfortable grip and is suitable for all users. The handle has been endurance-tested to 200,000 cycles. This helps to ensure that the quality of finish and performance over time. The lever that is sprung can be reduced to accommodate more locks. This is especially useful in doors with smaller door frames where the cylinder is located further back. A shortened lever is also an excellent option for doors where the latch could be opened by a thumb turn located on the inside.

Lever Pad

The lever pad upvc handle is different from the lever handles used on the majority of doors. These handle types can either work off one single spindle (inline) or independently from each side using two offset spindles or inline (pad). They are commonly utilized on UPVC doors with double glazing and come in a range of finishes & variations.

The handles have been tested to at least 200,000 cycles and are available in several finishes including White Silver, Chrome, & Gold. The finish is in line with BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, which gives the handle a high degree of durability and performance for the intended use.

All of the UPVC lever pad styles for handles are supplied with a spindle and screws, allowing them to be fitted on any new or existing uPVC door. The backplate fixation centers of 211mm allow for a bigger handle, which is often a benefit when replacing an old or damaged multi-point door lock mechanism. These handle levers have springs, which eliminate the issue of door handles that sag out of horizontal position when not being used.

It is crucial to match the dimensions of the PZ for both the multipoint lock and the uPVC doors when selecting the replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement can also be called 'handle for patio door centres or cylinder centre'. It is important for matching the correct handles.

Once you have the proper PZ size you will then have to ensure that the lever pads and push pads are of a suitable shape to fit the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compatible handles you need for your doors. These are usually square or round with an internal lever, and an external push pad.

The majority of UPVC Lever Pads that we offer are spring-loaded. This means they return to a horizontal position when they are not in use instead of hanging and possibly securing to the frame. This stops draughts from entering the building. The majority of UPVC lever pad handles come in both left and right handed versions, allowing them to be placed on either side of doors.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are typically used on uPVC doors, but they can also be used on other types of doors. The cylinder lock operates with a key that unlocks the cylinder case. The case is then able to reveal pins that can be aligned with the pins in the lock, allowing them to rotate the revolving camera, thereby opening the door. Euro cylinders can be equipped with up to six pins with both internal and external door handles euro lock doors generally needing different levels of security.

Selecting the right cylinder for your needs is crucial; it is dependent on the way your doors and handle are used. External doors, for example are required to be fitted with cylinders that are more secure, whereas doors inside can be secured with a standard cylinder. In addition, some cylinders are available with extra features which can enhance security, for instance anti-drill or anti-bump properties.

To ensure that the euro cylinder is the right size for your door, it must be measured correctly. The cylinder should be measured from the hole in the center of the fixing screw to the other end of the cylinder including the thumb turn if you have one. If you cannot measure with the lock in position, you can take it out of it. A cylinder that extends beyond the handle and escutcheon could be vulnerable to attacks, such as lock snapping, so it is crucial to make sure it's not too long.

The majority of modern cylinders have been designed with bump and anti-drill features that are built into their design. They are designed to minimize attacks by forcing cylinders to turn in a different direction. This helps prevent attacks and protect your doors.

Some cylinders are designed to withstand snapping. This is a typical attack on cylinders. A specific tool is used to break the break line of the lock and then the front of cylinder is snapped off. This is faster and easier to achieve than opening the door with a multipoint lock and leaves no evidence of a break-in, which could hinder an insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette sits inside the base of your door handle backplate, supplying a spring-loaded solution and returning the multipoint lock handles back to their normal position after usage. These handles used to have no spring and would drop when the window locking handles mechanism was removed. Adding this simple component is one of the best methods to correct this issue and is an excellent way to stop your doors made of upvc from becoming stuck in the open or closed position, as these are not always easy to manually close by hand.

These spring cassettes have been specifically made for use with multipoint locks that are sprung, they will not fit unsprung multipoint handles and you must have a hole specifically cut in your backplate to allow these to fit (please see image for technical diagram). They are a replacement for existing broken or missing cassettes within the door handle backplate of numerous brands of uPVC doors. They are fitted with a square cut out which accommodates an 8mm spindle and are sold as a set.
