WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of the item by +3. A random additional substat is also added to each upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as useful for those with lower requirements because of the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrades upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of armor or weapons. However, the item used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current level of the equipment being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than buying new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item upgrading, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to level up weapons tools, armor, and other items. They can be bought by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will display the preview of an item's next level of upgrade, if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the item slot and current item upgrade level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. After an Item Level upgrade has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.

Upgraders for items can be found in a variety of locations, including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and a possibility of getting an entirely new recipe. The discount on upgrades increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no item upgrader available at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via various methods, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, several new features have been added to the upgrade system. After an upgrade has been completed to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This is true even if the items are from another set of gear.

Crests

First, you should know that the crests can only be purchased for equipment that is of a particular rank. Each rank has a different upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complex requires as many as 20 crests depending on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities or taking on dungeons and raids of any difficulty to earn equipment of lower tier or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons with heroic difficulty to obtain endgame gear. These crests can then be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't that difficult however, the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. Once a piece of gear has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests only have one use and it's crucial to make use of them in a responsible manner. For instance, it's a good idea to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the Best item upgrade equipment you have, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you're planning to create. This is especially applicable to items like trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The account-wide discount will only apply when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
